I make time during the week to develop a good menu plan, it doesn't look pretty (it's usually just scribbled on a loose leaf sheet of paper) but it helps in so many ways!
It helps me ensure that I am giving my body what it needs daily! By planning my meals I can make sure that I am meeting my nutritional needs
It helps me to use up what I have in stock at home ( I take a quick inventory and design my meals around what I already have on hand)
it allows me to easily develop a good grocery shopping list, helping me to stay on budget and avoid impulse purchases (which for most people are unhealthy junk food choices)
it allows me to easily plan time for food preparation; having some pre-made items on hand for busy evenings is so important! It helps avoid the temptation to grab some fast food on the way home from work and it helps to save $
it allows me to plan out the use of leftovers for breakfast, lunch and snacks; this helps to avoid waste and also saves $
