APPLE CIDER VINEGAR: THE BENEFITS AND HOW YOU CAN EASILY ADD IT TO YOUR DIETARY ROUTINE
My Grandmother first introduced me to Apple Cider Vinegar many years ago when I was a small child. If I remember correctly I do believe it was the only vinegar she ever had on the kitchen table; she used it regularly, sprinkling a bit on her fish or dipping a green onion freshly picked from the garden into a little dish of it or using it in salad dressings. She told me she knew people who drank a little capful of it every night, convinced that it would keep illness/disease away.
My Mother uses it regularly as well, and although neither of us have brought ourselves to drinking it, we have carried on the tradition of my Grandmother; sprinkling it on our fish and vegetables, eating a fresh green onion dipped in it or using it to make our favourite salad dressings.
So it turns out that my Grandmother and my Mother were right in adding a little Apple Cider Vinegar to their favourite foods and salad dressings…. And here’s why
Research found that it can improve insulin sensitivity in Type 2 diabetics when taken before meals and that it can reduce glucose and insulin spikes after meals
It contains a number of acids that are beneficial for our health including acetic acid, lactic, citric and malic acids which help with things like the proper breaking down of food, mineral and B12 absorption and the maintenance of a balanced PH level
It is also said to be beneficial for hair and skin; it is found to add body and shine to hair and it is often used to soothe sun burns
It is also used as a general household cleaner; with a little baking soda it makes quick cleaning of bathroom sinks, bathtubs and toilet bowls and mixed with a little water it makes a great window, mirror and countertop cleaner.
There are cautions about drinking it full strength, despite my Grandmother’s friends who swore by the benefits, it may break down tooth enamel and cause irritation to the esophagus. If you do want to drink it, it’s suggested to mix a small amount in a glass of juice or water.
